Open Water
OE Year 10,020

The heavy winds that had blown the small vessels far out to sea had calmed down and the tiny boats now rocked back and forth very gently.
Tidas opens his eyes to the sound of voices crying out in the night, some in fear and others in pain from unknown injuries. He is unaware that he and his tattered group are no longer near the islands beaches. His head was pounding as he slowly tried to raise his body from the rough floor of the boat. His vision is a bit blurry as he tries to focus on his surroundings. Tidas raises one arm to touch the back of his head only to find his hand wet with blood.
'Where am I? I tried to beg my people to run to the boats. I remember holding my staff in front of myself to block the heavy blow from a troll swinging a hammer but I was unaware of the troll that was behind me. I remember hearing Ravens voice shout "Take the old seagull and make sure he stays in the boat." After that only darkness.'
Tidas can make out half a dozen boats drifting nearby. He also notices movement from several in the water splashing about as they go from boat to boat. His mind begins to drift back to the tsunami and storms that took the lives of many of his and and Ravens tribe mates just a little over five full turns of the seasons ago. The tribe had seen several recognitions, life matings and births since then and he was satisfied the tribe would once again continue to grow and survive. And now the two joining tribes had been attacked by trolls that once lived in underground tunnels in the depths of the now fallen towers. The trolls were thought to be long gone but instead came to steal slaves and rock shapers.
Turning to the figure next to him. "How many lost?"

Lace held on to the boat and looked back. "Lost.... many are lost..." She cried and sended to her new friends. *... Blueriver? Wing Fish? ...* But they didn't answered her call. "They are not answering.... not answering... no, no, NO!"
Memories of long gone surfaced, her family killed, lost. Not again, please, not again.
She looked at Tidas in horror. She had finally found a new tribe, new friends and now these creatures, the trolls came and just killed her friends. "I fear many are lost, although I haven't met everyone yet....I only see a handfull in each boat and the waters...."

Tidas has never been the type of leader to stand by and do nothing while his tribe needed him. Standing up he towers over the half dozen boats or more. While looking down at Lace he gently placed his hand on her shoulder to calm her.
"My people, I know you are frightened but we have been through tough times before and we will overcome this terrible attack of our people. We must keep calm and try to work together to get our people to a safe place."
Tidas is interrupted by a voice somewhere in the darkness of the boats. "Where would that be my lord? We are out here without food, fresh water and no blankets to keep warm. Many of us have suffered injures that still need to be taken care of. How can we leave our tribemates not knowing whether they are dead or alive?"
Tidas looking back in the direction they must have drifted from has a troubled look on his face. How could he possibly inform his people that he has been receiving sendings from his tribmates back near the holt, sendings so weak but so far away that the senders or message cannot be made out. Those same sendings awoke him from his sleep.

Kelp was torn between fear and fascination, as he floated down in the water, slowly drifting towards the boats. He decided that their needs outweighed his fear and he swam closer to the boats, rising in the water column to breech the surface. He'd cut the distance to the boats by half. As his head broke the surface he saw one Elf standing in a boat speaking aloud to the other scattered boats. Obviously a leader by his stance and tone, Kelp listened to his words.
"My people, I know you are frightened but we have been through tough times before and we will overcome this terrible attack of our people. We must keep calm and try to work together to get our people to a safe place." Spoke the leader. Someone else in another boat responded to the leader, but was too faint to be heard from Kelp's vantage point in the water. Then the leader turned to look back into the distance. In the direction where Kelp was treading in place, holding position. Kelp blinked his nictitating third eyelids flicking over his eyes from the sides towards the corners of his eyes near his nose, clearing his vision for above water sight. The leader seemed to console another elf in the same boat with a touch to her shoulder.
It was now or never to contact these new elves and offer what little help he could. Kelp spoke with a weak voice, not having needed to speak for many eight turns of the seasons.
"Hello?!" he croaked and tried again with more confidence. "Hello! Do you need help? I am out here in the water." He waved his arm back and forth vigorously to show them where he was. "Over here."
Kelp cautiously anticipated their response. Would it be hostility, or wariness? He was frightened, taking in a deep breath of air, and prepared to dive deep if they were hostile.
" I mean you no harm." He said, waiting for a response from the boats.
