Please read this before using one of the Non-Player Characters (NPCs)!
Description: A NPC is a character that can be controlled by anyone. As such, the guidelines for creating a NPC are much looser than the guidelines for any type of primary character. All that is required for a non-player character is a name, species, and short description of who they are.
NPC's don't belong to any member, only to the forum. But as you know we do have some guidelines for using them!
1. Everyone can create NPCs.
Every member is free to create NPCs, but we ask you not to make too many, we want a Holt where characters are active and played by members.
But if you have a good character in mind, post a CIS in the Pending Section or contact one of the moderators when in doubt, and add that the character will be a NPC!
We do want to stay true ElfQuest, please keep that in mind!
(CIS is available here!)
2. NPCs are not active characters.
You can only play NPCs when it adds to your story. You can't make a NPC and create a RP around him/her/it. It is possible however that they can forfill a keyrole in a RP.
3. Permissions to use a NPC.
When you want to play a NPC, post the name of the character that will interact with it and in which RP under the CIS.
It isn't possible for a NPC to be in 2 rp's at the same time. We are a real-time forum, so no character can be played in 2 rp's at the same time or played by two different members.
Please check in each CIS if someone is already using the NPC or ask there if the NPC is available.
A Character must always return to it's Livingarea (the fixed areas in the RPboard). This way members also know the character can be played by others again.
4. Adoptables as NPCs.
When you create an adoptable, we can also use them as NPC untill they are adopted.
If you want to adopt a character, please ask below the CIS and make sure no other member is playing the character atm.
When approved you need to post the CIS in the Pending Section after which you can adjust the CIS. Important is that you clearly show what you have added or changed, use a different color for this.
Some things you can't change:
Name
Gender
Soulname
Tribe
Known relatives (who are active in this Holt)
Important events in it's life
5. Play other members Characters.
If you are going to be absent for some time, it is possible to let others play your characters.
Play them with your general account or the one it interacts with.
Post the text for the temp in the same post as your character in a different color!
When you play the character on regular basis, you could create a new profile, with permission of the member.
6. Use NPCs in Stories or Art.
You can always add NPCs in stories and art, look at the CIS to see how they look and, if added, what their personality is.
Ask permission of the creator.
I think that is it (for now). If someone want to add something, please let me know.
